I think I've lost it...

I need to have my head examined.  Really.  Truly.  Oh wait...I already did that.  Well, obviously either nothing was up there, or it was so bad, it was kept a secret.  You know why?  Well, okay, let me explain.  I love to applique.  I love to do counted cross stitch.  I love to hand sew on binding.  Anything handwork, I love.  I "like" to hand quilt, and would LOVE to LOVE it except my stitches look like basting stitches.  I guess I haven't practiced that enough.  ANYWHO, the reason for this short and sweet post today is to show you why I need head examination.  This came in the mail today.  And I ordered it.  LOL  Don't panic.  The quilt didn't come in the mail - just the pattern.  ;)

Pretty?  GORGEOUS SMORGEOUS?  Am I nuts?  yep... I mean, I DO love to applique, but if you click on it, you'll see there is quite a bit.  A. LOT.  And I love it.  I think it's one of the most beautiful quilts I've ever seen.  So I am now the proud owner of the pattern (maybe I should just frame the pattern LOL).  I'm dying to start it...kinda sorta.  It's a tad intimidating, but I know that like any other large pattern like this, I just need to break it down into sections.  Anyway, what do you think?  You likey??  The name of it is "Stars and Sprigs" and it's by Kim McLean (just in case I've enabled anyone here LOL).  If I HAVE enabled you, I'd love to know.  ;)

Okedoke, back to your regularly scheduled programming.  I just wanted to share my new purdy with you.

Have a most wonderful weekend, friends, and thank you for stopping by.  It makes my day!  Truly it does!

Hugs and pats,

I love the quilts like this, I am very traditional. I also love appliqué, never done it by hand though! I have often thought I would like to do one of these! You can do it!

wow. that's so totally impressive! I can't tell from the picture - are all of those appliques raw edged? I love to hand-stitch things too. Especially applique and free stitching (patterns make me crazy and big projects- I have no patience for them!) You go girl!

That quilt is gorgeous! And yes you are crazy, but that's why I love you so!

Yep, you're right, you have!

It is gorgeous though. A while ago I came across one of Kim's other patterns and fell in love with that. I'm still in the collecting phase for applique patterns, I haven't actually done any yet. I've kitted up 2 applique quilts for when I'm feeling brave!

Have you started collecting fabric for it yet?

Go back to the doctor - you need another test! lol

That quilt is breath taking! How long do you think it'll take to do?

Completely BONKERS!! But I love it too. If it weren't for the fact that I'm completely head over heals right now for another quilt.. I'd be right there doing it with you... In my own version of colors of course.. Have to be an original :)

WOW---- That is so neat....love quilts---never tried to make one while I had a sewing machine...my lil sister just started- but she doesn't do appl.
go ahead and make it----just remember---just like the x-stitching---one stitch at a time---wel just do this "one block at a time" and pat your self on the back once your done....then go to the next one. Good-Luck---its a beautiful pattern.

Lovely! Just start with one block at a time. May take you a while, but, you'll get there in the end. Keep 'kits' in your purse to pull out whenever you get the chance. I had a friend hand sew a postage stamp quilt. Took her 2 years. When she started quilting it, her hubby asked her who gave it to her, since she'd only worked on it out of her purse, not at home.

I love Stars and Sprigs and it is on my list for next month. Not only am I going to purchase the pattern, but join the BOM! Been weighing the costs for a month now. And I don't mind all the applique - just makes it more fun.

Well really Carolyn, I absolutely know you can make this beautiful quilt! You are an inspiration to all of us! I cannot wait, even if it takes yrs, to see this quilt made by your hands. Carry on my Twitter amiga, I just might contribute fabric to this endeavor and maybe a house call lol.

OK so I love the quilt and it will be a challenged to make but in the end it will be so BEAUTIFUL!!!
It reminds me a Christmas quilt I made last year (Guess I should do a post on that :)
In the end I was so glad it was done!!!

I am now following and I lust love what I'm seeing!

Happened upon your blog while surfing the net. I've enjoyed your blog and fabrics and textile projects. Your pattern is marvelous--I too am a fan of appliqué, but rather needle-turn appliqué. I think it's the pattern's border that makes the quilt.

Oh, my gorgeousness! That is wonderful. I guess when you do break it all down, it is little steps. Like eating a marshmellow Peep the size of a ginormous elephant...you eat it one bite at a time. Thank you for sharing! I can't wait til you show it all completed! (heheh no pressure no pressure!)
